Abstract
Abstract:
The southwestern-northcentral regions of Nigeria boast a wealth of medicinal plants traditionally used for female reproductive health issues, yet these remedies and conventional medical treatments have seen limited research and documentation. This study aimed to gather information on traditional healing practices for female reproductive health problems in Lagos, Nigeria, through questionnaires and oral interviews with herbal practitioners. The study identified 39 plants used to address various issues, with Bryophyllum pinnatum being the most frequently cited at 43.5 %, and Plumbago zeylanica L. the least with the frequency of 5.1 %. These plants, in the form of concoctions, decoctions, or powders, were used to treat conditions like menstrual cramps, infertility, and vaginal infections. The findings emphasize the potential of integrating traditional herbal remedies into contemporary healthcare and the need for rigorous scientific validation and preservation of these practices.
