Abstract
This research work was carried out to isolate and determine the microbial load of some food poisoning bacterial on some street vended foods (beans, yam, wara, masa and moimoi) in Aliero town. Pour plate techniques were used in the isolation of the bacteria, each of the bacteria was identified and characterized using gram staining technique. Microbiological biochemical test were conducted to identify each isolate at species level. The total plate count revealed that masa, had the highest microbial load of 1.52×108 CFU/g with a Mean±SD of 151±1.00 CFU/g, while moimoi has the lowest plate count of 8.4×107 CFU/g with a Mean±SD of 82.67±1.53 CFU/g.Staphylococcus
aureus species were (50%) predominantly high amongst the samples, followed by Bacillus cereus (25%), Escherichia coli (16%) while the least was Salmonella spp (8%). The high microbial load counted for wara, yam and masa could be due to exposure of this food to environmental contaminants while beans, rice and moimoi are usually covered in food flask by food vendors this result in the lower microbial load of these food samples.

Key words: Food poisoning, Bacteria, Food vendors, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus
