Identification of Pharmacological Targets of 5-methyl coumarin-4β-glucoside by Computational Target Fishing

Abstract
Vernonia glaberrima is a medicinal plant that is used in African traditional medicine for the treatment of several diseases. This plant contains 5-methyl coumarin-4β-glucoside in very large quantity. Despite the abundance of these natural products its biochemical mechanism of actions and potential molecular targets are yet to be identified. In the present study, we predicted the potential pharmacological targets of this compound using PharmMapper, SwissTargetPrediction and molecular docking. Carbonic anhydrase 2 and 12 were identified as the main disease related targets. The present study provides information on potential therapeutic targets of 5-methyl coumarin-4β-glucoside for future drug development.
