Studies on the Distribution of Dermatophytosis Among Cattles in Aliero Local Government Areas, Kebbi State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the distribution of fungal infection in cattle in Aliero Local Government Area, Kebbi State, Nigeria. Thirty cattle in Labana farm, Jiga birni, Runtuwa of Aliero local Government were examined from May to July 2017. The animals were classified into two age groups, the young and adult. Each animal was examined for skin ringworm lesions. Of the 30 cattle studied, 27 of them were clinically positive for skin ringworm lesions. Status of infection in relation to gender, age, and environmental conditions were also examined. The highest incidence rate (91.7%) was recorded in female cattle and the lowest rate (88.9%) was recorded in male cattle. The distribution of the infection was not significant (p=0.804). The distribution of dermatophytosis in Jiga birni and Aliero runtuwa was high, both are having (100%), while in Labana farms, the distribution of the infection was low (70.0%). Base on anatomical location, the neck showed the highest distribution rate (100%), while the least (85.7) was recorded in tail. In conclusion, Cattle serve as major source of meat in the world and fungi infection is considered to be a major factor that affects the survival of cattle. Therefore, routine and regular inspection of animals, isolation of infected animals, disinfection of contaminated stables and other effective control program should be highly recommended.
